About this app

Open-channel flow, a branch of hydraulics and fluid mechanics, is a type of liquid flow within a conduit with a free surface, known as a channel.

Open Flow is an application that allows a user to calculate the dimensions of a specific channel type such as rectangular, triangular, trapezoidal, circular and parabolic. Also, it allows a user to calculate a channel's flow hydraulic properties such as flow capacity, flow width, flow depth, channel slope, Froude number and many others.

For the five types of channels here are the parameters that can be calculated:

Circular Channel: Flow Quantity, Radius, Radius for Maximum Discharge, Radius for Maximum Velocity, Channel Empty Depth, Channel Slope, Channel Slope for Maximum Discharge, Channel Slope for Maximum Velocity.

Parabolic Channel: Flow Quantity, Flow Depth, Channel Shape Curve Factor, Channel Slope.

Rectangular Channel: Flow Quantity, Flow Width, Flow Depth, Channel Slope, Most Economical Section.

Triangular Channel: Flow Quantity, Flow Depth, Channel Slope, Most Economical Section.

Trapezoidal Channel: Flow Quantity, Bottom Flow Flow Width, Flow Depth, Channel Slope, Most Economical Section.

Open Flow supports SI units only.

Results are listed in details once calculation is performed and the application allows a user to share his/her results through multiple electronic ways such as mail, Google Drive, Skype, Viber and others.

A detailed help section is provided in order to guide a new user on ow to navigate through the different application's sections.
