Andalusian muwashshahats originated in Andalusia, at the end of the third century AH (the ninth century AD) during the reign of Prince Abdullah bin Muhammad, and in these years music flourished and singing became popular on the one hand, and the friction of the Arab element with the Spanish element on the other hand. The muwashshahat arose in response to an artistic need first, and secondly to a social phenomenon. As for it being a response to an artistic need, his statement is that the Andalusians had been fond of music and were assigned to sing, ever since Ziryab came to them, and spread his art among them. And music and singing if they flourished and their prosperity had an impact on poetry. This influence took a special form in the Hijaz and Iraq, when singing and music flourished in the Umayyad and then Abbasid eras. Likewise, this influence took a different form in Andalusia, when singing and music flourished in the period we are talking about. It appears that the Andalusians felt the backwardness of the unified poem, in the face of the various melodies, and they felt the rigidity of poetry in its strict traditional past, in front of the melody in its regenerative, flexible present. There is an urgent need for a new color of poetry, to keep pace with music and singing in their diversity and different melodies. From here emerged this poetic lyrical art in which the weights vary and rhymes are multiplied, and for which music is considered the basis of its foundations, it is organized from the beginning to the composition and singing. As for the fact that the emergence of muwashahat came as a result of a social phenomenon, his statement is that the Arabs mixed with the Spaniards, and formed a new people in which there is Arabism and in which there is Spanish. That is, there was a linguistic duality as a result of racial duality. A literature representing that bilingualism had to be created, and it was the muwashshahat. It is decided that the muwashahat, from its inception until centuries later, was organized in the classical Arabic, except for the last paragraph of it, which is the kharaj, as it was based on the colloquial Andalusian. It is known that this colloquial Arabic was the colloquial Arabic used for words from the colloquial Latin. In this regard, Ibn Bassam says, in his talk about the inventor of the muwashahat (Moqaddam bin Ma’afi al-Qabri) that “he used to take the colloquial and non-verbal pronunciation and call it the center, and make the muwashshah on it.” It is as if the muwashshahs have two aspects: a musical aspect represented in the diversification of meter and rhyme, and this came in response to the artistic need of Andalusia when music and singing became widespread, and a linguistic aspect, represented in the muwashshah being eloquent in its colloquial paragraphs and in its exclusivity, and this aspect came as a result of the bilingualism that causes the Racial dualism.
