The hardest ten minutes of a school morning is the ten minutes after someone phones in sick. Which periods are now uncovered? Who is standing in front of Grade 6-A at 9:30? Who is even free to take it?
Chalk Grid answers all three from one board. Each class has its own weekly timetable, laid out the way it is on the staffroom wall: periods down the side, days across the top, every cell holding its subject and its teacher. Tap a cell to set it, tap it again to change it.
Then mark a teacher absent for a date. Chalk Grid pulls up every period that teacher was due to take that day and, for each one, offers you only the staff who are genuinely free right then — nobody who is already teaching another class, nobody already covering somewhere else. Choose a name and the cover is pinned: the timetable shows the original teacher struck through with the stand-in beneath, flagged in rose.
The Today board collects the day's substitutions in period order so the office, the staffroom and the head all read the same list. Alongside it you get the month's cover count, how many staff are out, and a weekly teaching-load chart drawn straight from the timetable.
Made for the people who hold the timetable:
- School and college offices
- Head teachers and section heads
- Academy and madrassa coordinators
Everything stays on the device — no sign-up, no internet, and no fees, salaries or payments anywhere in the app. It handles the timetable, not the money.
