Lipalikes is a social media platform that seeks to change the way creative content that is shared via digital platforms is monetized directly by content creators. The Lipalikes models incorporates an in-app wallet that allows users to top-up, transfer and withdraw money with each other through the functionality available through the Lipalikes app.
Lipalikes allows the direct contribution via reactions (likes, gota and love) by viewers to a content creator’s channel.
Here’s how it works;
Each user has a channel and an in-app wallet. Users may put money into their in-app wallet via a top-up option, preferably M-Pesa playbill. Whenever a user views someone else’s content they may choose to appreciate that content or the content creator by giving them some money from their in-app wallet (viewer’s wallet). This can be transferred through one of four standardized ways i.e. like which is equivalent of Ksh. 1, gota which is equivalent to Ksh. 5, love which is equivalent of Ksh. 100 and splash which is any amount so long as it is available in the user’s in-app wallet. Following this show of appreciation/reaction, the corresponding amount is transferred from the viewer’s wallet to the content creator’s wallet.
Additionally, each user has the capability to create and share content on the platform thereby allowing everyone to transfer and receive money to their in-app wallet. When a user wishes to withdraw the money from their in-app wallet they can do so through available options which include mobile money options (Service Provider rates may apply).
The content that users may upload to the platform include videos, photos and audio based content and all content sharable will have to adhere to the Lipalikes community compliance guidelines.
Users may begin generating income from their content as soon as they sign up and other users interact accordingly to their uploaded content (by liking, gota, loving and splashing). A content moderation framework has been established to ensure all content creators adhere to the community compliance guidelines with penalties being applicable to content which is found not to be in compliance. These penalties include content removal, demonetization and removal from the platform for content creators who breach the guidelines.
