MP3Shelf plays the MP3 files already stored in your phone's Music folder. Your music stays on your phone: no online catalogue, no streaming, no account, no ads and no in-app purchases. The app is free.
YOUR LIBRARY
Once you allow access to your music, MP3Shelf scans the Music folder and lists every MP3 file it finds. Other formats are not listed.
• A file named "Artist - Title.mp3" is split into artist and title: the text before the first " - " is the artist, the text after it is the title.
• Without that separator, MP3Shelf uses the artist and title stored in the file's ID3 tags.
• Search covers title, artist and album.
FIX NAMES
• Change the artist and title shown for a track.
• If you like, rename the file itself too; Android may ask you to confirm.
• MP3Shelf does not rewrite the tags inside the file, and your corrected names are kept when the folder is rescanned.
PLAYBACK
• Tap a track to play it. The mini player shows the title, artist, artwork and progress, with previous, play/pause and next.
• Shuffle.
• Music keeps playing in the background, with a notification.
• The queue follows the list on screen: all files, a playlist, your favourites or search results.
• The "Artist of the moment" card shows the artist now playing or, when nothing is playing, the artist with the most tracks, and lets you play their songs.
PLAYLISTS AND FAVOURITES
• Create local playlists, each with a name and an icon.
• A track can be in several playlists.
• Tap the select button, tick several tracks, then tap a playlist to add them all at once.
• Tap the heart to add a track to your favourites or remove it.
• Deleting a playlist never deletes the files.
ARTWORK
MP3Shelf can show the picture embedded in the MP3, or look up pictures online on Deezer, then iTunes: one for the artist or band, one for the song and one for the album. You choose which one is displayed. Only the artist, title and, if known, album are sent for this lookup, never your audio files.
MUSIC ALARMS
• Set as many daily alarms as you like, each with its own time and music: a playlist or your whole library.
• Switch an alarm off without deleting it, and tap it to change it.
• The alarm plays at the phone's alarm volume.
• To ring on time, the alarm needs Android's "Alarms & reminders" permission. Without it, Android may delay the alarm or block the music.
SETTINGS
• Language: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch or Polish, or your phone's language.
• Rescan the Music folder to find new, renamed or deleted MP3 files.
• Refresh all images.
• Export your library to a CSV file (names, favourites, playlists and image choices) and import it again later, for example on a new phone. Tracks are matched by file name; nothing is deleted.
Dark interface. Requires Android 8.0 or later.
