About this app

The award-winning Environment News Service is the original daily international wire service of the environment. Established in 1990 in Vancouver, BC, Canada, the company is still independently owned and operated by its founders. Over the years, ENS has been based throughout the Western United States - from Arizona to Hawaii, from Colorado to Washington, to our current home base in Eugene, Oregon.

"We've been reporting news of the environment across the United States and around the world since January 1, 1990 when we published our first issue on the fledgling internet," says Sunny Lewis, founding editor in chief, Environment News Service. "Humanity is still dealing with the same issues - climate change, fossil fuels, pollution, population - but the technologies to cope with them have changed, and ENS is documenting it all - every step of the way."

ENS covers all issues and events that affect the environment: natural disasters, politics, legislation, conferences, demonstrations, legal action, international agreements, sustainable development, climate change, energy, nuclear issues, public health, air quality, drinking water, oceans and marine life, land use, forests, wildlife, hazardous materials, toxics, energy, solid waste and recycling, transportation, environmental economics and the built environment.

As ignorance is at the root of Earth’s degradation, and knowledge can foster planetary health, ENS management and correspondents strive to provide news that is factual, comprehensive, and without bias.

With the conviction that ignorance is responsible for degradation of Earth’s ecosystems and knowledge can result in planetary health, ENS management and correspondents strive to provide news that is factual and presented without bias.

ENS staffers and correspondents file stories to the central ENS editorial desk. In addition to being journalists, ENS contributors may be experts in other fields such as law, ecology, economics or public health.
