About this app

CROPIC is an innovative initiative introduced by the Ministry of Agriculture
& Farmers Welfare, Government of India, under the umbrella of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal
Bima Yojana (PMFBY). It is designed to revolutionize the way crop monitoring, yield
assessment, and insurance claim verifications are performed in Indian agriculture.
Leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), mobile technology, and cloud computing, CROPIC
enables real-time, ground-level data collection through geo-tagged photographs taken by
farmers. These images are analyzed by AI models to detect the type of crop, its current
growth stage, and signs of biotic or abiotic stress. The insights are then made accessible to
various stakeholders—farmers, insurers, and government officials through a centralized
dashboard for timely decision-making.
How It Works

1. Photo Capture
Farmers or field agents take 4–5 geo-tagged photos of their crop plots at predefined
intervals throughout the crop season.

2. Upload to Cloud Platform
Images and basic metadata (location, date, time, crop name) are uploaded through
the CROPIC mobile app.

3. AI Image Analysis
The cloud-based AI engine analyzes each photo to:
o Identify the crop type
o Detect the growth stage
o Analyze for pests, diseases, or drought/flood stress
o Flag potential yield-affecting anomalies

4. Data Visualization
Processed data is displayed in a central web dashboard for use by:
o Insurance companies
o Government agencies (State/GOI)
o PMFBY administrators
o District-level agriculture officers

5. Claims & Monitoring
Data feeds into yield estimation models and damage assessment processes,
expediting insurance claim approval and policy decisions.
