About this app

Tacho is a fast, accurate GPS speedometer with odometer, HUD and trip log for your car, bike, boat or run. See your speed in big numbers, record trips with a route map, and get a warning when you go over your limit. It works offline: your phone's GPS needs no internet.

Accurate GPS speedometer
• Your speed from the phone's GPS, updated every second
• A smooth dial that grows with your speed, from walking pace to highway
• Choose km/h, mph or knots, or tap the unit to switch
• Odometer, top speed, distance, time and average speed
• Works in portrait and landscape, and the screen stays on while you drive

HUD mode for the windshield
• Your speed alone, huge, on black, at full brightness
• Mirror it and lay the phone on the dashboard: the windshield shows it the right way round
• Pick green, amber, blue or white for day or night

Speed limit alert
• Set a limit and Tacho beeps and vibrates when you go over it
• The speed turns red, and a marker on the dial shows your limit
• Choose sound, vibration or both

Trip history with route map
• Start a trip and Tacho records its distance, time, average speed and top speed
• See the route drawn on a map-style view, coloured by speed from slow to fast
• A speed graph for every trip, and zoom the route with your fingers
• Rename or delete trips, share a summary, or export a GPX file for Strava, Komoot or Google Earth
• Open the start of a trip in your maps app

Private and simple
• No account and no sign-up
• Your location is used only while Tacho is open, and your trips stay on your phone
• Light and dark mode, in a clean design
• The only permission it asks for is your location

Good to know
GPS needs a clear view of the sky. For the best accuracy, allow precise location. GPS speed can differ slightly from your vehicle's own speedometer. Always follow the posted speed limit and keep your eyes on the road.

How to start
1. Open Tacho and allow location
2. Put the phone in a mount, or lay it on the dashboard in HUD mode
3. Tap Start Trip to record your route
