About this app

Say hello to your bird in a language it already knows.

BirdTalk turns a phrase you choose into a real recorded call from your bird's own species. Pick your bird, tap a big button, and the sound plays. That is the whole app.

HOW IT WORKS

• Swipe through full-screen photos and choose your bird
• Tap one of eight phrases, written in large, plain type
• A real recording of that species plays straight away
• Tap the same phrase again to stop it

• Budgerigar, also called a budgie or parakeet
• Fischer's lovebird

Each bird has its own set of eight sounds. A cockatiel never plays a budgie's chirp.

REAL RECORDINGS, NOT IMITATIONS

Every sound is cut from an actual recording of that species, shared by wildlife recordists under Creative Commons licences. Nothing is synthesised, and no clip is sped up, slowed down or shifted in pitch. Clips are only trimmed and repeated, the way a bird repeats its own calls. Each recordist, and the licence for their recording, is credited on a Credits page inside the app.

• No internet permission at all, so the app cannot send anything anywhere
• No account, no sign-up, no email address
• No advertising, no tracking, no analytics
• Nothing is collected about you or your bird
• Works on a plane, in a lift, or with mobile data switched off

BirdTalk costs nothing. There are no in-app purchases, no subscription and no locked birds.

ONE HONEST NOTE

BirdTalk is a companion for fun and company. It does not translate bird language, and your bird may well ignore it. Play the sounds at a comfortable volume and stop if your bird seems startled or upset. If you have any concern about your bird's health, please speak to a veterinarian.
