About this app

Reading Chinese is extremely important, if you live in a Chinese speaking country, plus it's the best way to learn the language. But reading raw characters has always been difficult. Pinyiner makes it easy. It breaks the characters into words, shows Pinyin above and displays the English meaning if you click on a word. Just copy&paste some text, "Share" it from another app or open a file.
Perfect for reading messages from your friends, Chinese texts on the Web and even whole books. You can also use it as a Simplified/Traditional converter.
Check out the ad-free paid version!

Note: on Android Oreo the Clipboard monitoring might not always work because of the "Battery optimization". In this case, go to Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> Advanced-> Special app access -> Battery optimization -> Select "All apps" at the top -> find Pinyiner, click on it and select "Don't optimize" -> Done.

+ Works fully offline and very fast
+ Clipboard monitoring: any copied text containing Chinese characters is automatically annotated in the notification area
+ Paste the text or use "Share" from another app to annotate with Pinyin
+ Edit the original text
+ Convert between Simplified and Traditional characters
+ Open and annotate text files, even large books (UTF-8 encoded)
+ Save text and its Pinyin into a file. If saving both, you can read the resulting TSV file with e.g. MS Excel (Data->From text->Delimited->Tab)
+ Mark interesting words and export them to Pleco / Anki / AnkiDroid Flashcards for effective learning
+ Add bookmarks to the text
+ Integrates with other dictionaries: GoldenDict, ColorDict, Pleco, Hanping, etc
+ Rearrange how the characters are grouped into words
+ Zoom in/out, configure the color, pinyin style
+ One great short story is included (to realize that reading Chinese is actually easy and fun!)

Previously I gave this great app 5 stars, but now that I upgraded my tablet to Mi Pad 5 (Android 11, MIUI 13) neither Clipboard Monitoring nor saving the file work EDIT: Saving file fixed, thank you so much! Clipboard Monitoring issue may be because of the system, because other apps also have issues with that despite receiving proper permissions. I use Pinyiner daily, it's a life-saving app and there's no like it on iOS.

The version 8.1 of the app should take care of the file saving issue. And regarding the clipboard monitoring you are correct, it is Android 10+ security restriction. You can try a hack with ADB though that is described in the app.

I don't know if it's just me or something. I can't find any txt files on my device through this app anymore although clearly they are there. It used to be my companion when reading Chinese txts. Pls try to fix it if it's a bug. And thank u for your amazing app. It was a delight. (My phone software is Android 11.)
