About this app

Hardtack is the calm, reliable, offline-first home inventory app. Catalog your household reserves (water, food, first-aid, tools, energy, documents) and see at a glance how many days of self-sufficiency your home really has.

Pay once. Own forever. No account, no cloud, no ads, no usage telemetry. Your data stays on your device.

WHAT HARDTACK DOES

• Home inventory, your way: add items with photos, quantities, units and notes. Organize by category and by location (pantry, garage, cellar, vehicle, kit bags, custom places).

• Add by barcode: scan a product and its details fill in automatically. Works with UPC and EAN codes through an online lookup (Open Food Facts, then USDA, then UPCitemdb). Once a product is identified, its name and nutrition values stay available offline on your device. Manual entry remains available as a fallback.

• Multi-batch expiry tracking: one item can hold several batches with different dates. Local notifications warn you 7 days then 1 day before anything expires. Nothing slips through forgotten.

• Days of self-sufficiency: a clear dashboard computes your days of water, calories and key reserves from your household composition. Add members and their needs for a personalized estimate.

• Ready-to-use kit templates: start from proven checklists, 72-hour bag, vehicle kit, blackout kit, earthquake kit, basic first-aid, infant and pet kits, with visual completion progress.

• Smart rotation & restocking: a first-in-first-out view surfaces what to use next. Items below your minimum threshold flow into an automatic, exportable shopping list.

• Consumption mode & spending tracking: decrement stock as you use it in daily life, and keep an eye on what your reserves cost, with a breakdown by category.

• Privacy controls built in: optional app lock (fingerprint / face / PIN), item-name obfuscation and a decoy view keep your inventory private on a shared or lost device.

• Local sharing, no cloud: share an inventory snapshot with family as an encrypted QR code, scanned on the other device and imported locally. No server in the middle.

• Export and back up: export to CSV or JSON and save a local backup through the native share sheet to Files, Drive or your storage of choice.

BUILT TO LAST

Hardtack is a one-time purchase, not a subscription treadmill. A free tier lets you start. The full version unlocks unlimited items, locations and household profiles, the full self-sufficiency dashboard, all themes, privacy controls, consumption mode, export and local sharing, all for a single one-time purchase.

Available on Android and iOS, localized in English, French, German and Spanish.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does Hardtack work offline, without an account?
Yes. Inventory, expiry dates, reminders, grocery list and days of supply all work with no connection, no account and no email. Only the optional product lookup when you scan a barcode queries a product database, and it sends nothing but the barcode.

Is this a subscription?
No. The full version is a single one-time purchase. Nothing renews, nothing is rented by the month.

How does expiry date tracking work?
Each item holds several batches with different dates. Hardtack warns you 7 days then 1 day ahead, and the first-in-first-out view tells you what to use before it goes to waste.

What are kit templates for?
So you never start from a blank page: 72-hour bag, vehicle kit, blackout kit, earthquake kit, basic first-aid, infant and pet kits.
