About this app

Look up any US vehicle by its 17-character VIN to see factory specifications
and check for open safety recalls — pulled directly from NHTSA, the U.S.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

WHAT YOU GET

Enter a VIN, or scan the barcode from a door-jamb sticker, windshield corner,
or registration card, to see:

• Make, model, year, and trim
• Body style, doors, and drivetrain
• Engine size, cylinders, and horsepower
• Transmission type
• Manufacturing plant and country
• Gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR)

RECALL CHECK

Every decoded vehicle is automatically checked against NHTSA's recall
database. If there's an open recall, you'll see the affected component, a
summary of the issue, and the manufacturer's remedy — useful before buying a
used car, or to check a vehicle you already own.

HOW IT WORKS

VIN Decoder & Recall Check uses NHTSA's public vPIC and recall APIs, so the
data comes straight from the source. Your recent lookups are saved on your
device so you can revisit them without re-entering the VIN.

Built for anyone buying, selling, or maintaining a vehicle in the United
States — no account, no sign-up required to look up a VIN.
