REMOTE ASSISTANCE — USING THE ACCESSIBILITY API (AccessibilityService)
SIDA Quiz includes an optional remote assistance feature: upon request
from the driving school, a SIDA support operator can remotely
intervene on the tablet to resolve malfunctions and configuration issues, without
requiring staff to perform any technical procedures.
To offer this feature, the app uses Android's AccessibilityService API.
The "SIDA Quiz - Remote Assistance" service is used exclusively to:
- reproduce on the screen the touches, swipes, and text sent
by the operator during an active remote assistance session. Android does not provide any other public API for third-party apps to perform this operation: the AccessibilityService's dispatchGesture() is the only possible way
;
- identify the currently selected text field, so that the operator
can write in the correct field.
How it works and how the user is protected:
- The feature is disabled by default. The service must be
manually enabled by the user in Android Settings > Accessibility;
before that step, the app displays a notice explaining what the
service does, which can always be consulted from the app.
- Even with the service enabled, no input can be sent to the device
outside of an authorized remote assistance session: during the session, the app
displays a persistent warning with a button to immediately end the session.
- During an authorized session, the tablet screen is shared in
real time with the operator, over the driving school's local network: the flow
is not recorded, saved, or sent to external servers.
- The accessibility API only sends touch commands: it does not read or
transmit screen content, does not record audio or phone calls, does not
collect personal data, does not read credentials, and does not change device settings.
- The user can deactivate the service at any time from Android Settings > Accessibility, or uninstall the app: no other SIDA
Quiz functions are limited; the app remains fully usable without remote
assistance.
- This service is not an accessibility tool intended for people with disabilities (isAccessibilityTool="false") and does not replace TalkBack or other
Android accessibility services.
