The free Aware Outdoors mobile app shows you where the active Iridium satellites are relative to your location, so you can send and receive messages faster.
Iridium satellites are used by ZOLEO, Garmin inReach, SpotX, Somewear Global Hotspot, and Bivy Stick devices to send and receive messages. The satellites orbit near the poles, traveling overhead north or south. By design, at least one satellite is above the horizon at all times, anywhere on Earth — but that doesn't guarantee your device can reach it: terrain and vegetation around you can block the radio signal.
Using the Aware Outdoors app, you can see which direction the satellites are in now and in the near future. If a satellite is blocked by a hill, you can walk until you have a clear view — or if you're resting in the shade, you can find out when a satellite will next be visible overhead.
The app also includes offline help for Aware Outdoors commands and message groups, plus buttons to compose an SMS or ZOLEO command with your current location.
