Calendate is a calendar app: it creates events on your phone's calendar from a photo of an invitation or from what you dictate aloud. It reads the title, date, time, and location; it lets you correct anything necessary, choose which calendar to save it to, and add a reminder or alarm.
WHAT THE APP DOES
• Scans invitations. Take a photo of the invitation, choose an image from your gallery, or share it from another app. Text recognition runs on your phone and extracts the title, date, time, and location.
• Creates the event on your calendar. You choose which calendar to save it to, and Calendate writes it there, with its start time, duration, and location.
• Understands your dictation. "Invite Lucía to the park tomorrow at noon" creates the event. "Wake me up tomorrow at 8" sets the alarm on your phone's clock. It understands how people really talk: tomorrow, next Monday, at 8:30, in two hours, at noon.
• It notifies you on time. A reminder is displayed on the event page, or, if the notification is received within the next 24 hours, an alarm will sound on your system clock.
• It adds guests. You add their email addresses, and the invitation is sent with the event attached, ready to accept from any email app.
• It organizes your events. Upcoming events are visible, and past events are stored separately. They can be deleted one at a time, always with confirmation.
DICTATION, INSIDE YOUR PHONE
It's recognized offline, in the device's language. If that language isn't available offline, the app will tell you instead of sending your voice to a server: we prefer not to dictate rather than do it behind your back. And the dictation can be corrected before the app interprets it, because no voice recognition system can spell all proper nouns correctly.
WHAT WE DON'T MAKE UP
No questionable information is displayed the same as information we know for sure. If the date "5/8" could be August 5th or May 8th, Calendate highlights the field, offers both interpretations, and shows you the source of each piece of information on the photo. Without a start date and time, the "Add to Calendar" button won't work: we'd rather have a detail missing than send you to the wrong birthday party.
GUESTS
The email addresses of those you invite are saved in your phone's contacts: the next time you scan an invitation, they appear as a suggestion with the first few letters. In Google Calendars, guests are added directly to the event.
DELETING WHAT'S NO LONGER NECESSARY
Swipe an event from the list—or tap it—and we'll ask for your confirmation before deleting anything: the confirmation tells you which calendar it will come from. Upon confirmation, it's deleted from your phone's calendar and the list.
ALL ON YOUR PHONE
Text recognition and date reading run on the device. There's no backend, no account, and no photos are uploaded to any server. Your email address book is also local.
PERMISSIONS
Choosing a photo doesn't require any permissions. Taking one is handled by the system's camera app. Calendar permission is only requested when absolutely necessary: when choosing where to save the event, or when confirming that you want to delete one. If you deny permission when scheduling, the system editor will be used; if you deny permission when deleting, the event will be removed from the list, and we'll notify you that it's still on your calendar.
Scan the invitation or dictate the plan: it will remain as an event on your calendar.
