About this app

Colophon is a continuity-first environment for authored work.

Read essays, books and editions in a single column with one typeface, generous leading, and nothing in the margin asking for your attention. A work you began reopens where you left it.

Every writing carries its own history. Revisions are append-only and each one holds the author's own note on what changed and why — so a piece is not a finished object that appeared from nowhere, but a record you can follow. Books are composed into editions, and an edition is sealed to a revision: the text you were given is the text that stays.

Authors write here by admission rather than sign-up, and correspondence is private to the people named in it. There is no way to contact a stranger.

What Colophon does not have is deliberate. No feed. No recommendations. No likes, follower counts or reading streaks. No notifications designed to bring you back. The archive is built so the work outlasts the platform, and your own work can be exported at any time in open formats.

What’s new

Buying an edition and Author Membership now work in the app, through Google Play.

Every published work is now in the app, including work published since the last release.

Reading at large text sizes gives the page its full width. The publication record shows the date, the imprint, and how to cite a work. Accounts: change your password or your email address from inside the app. The system Back button now walks back through the app instead of closing it.
