SARGATRACK, CITIZEN MONITORING FOR THE CARIBBEAN COAST

Created in Martinique, SargaTrack is a citizen platform dedicated to sargassum seaweed, beach conditions, and bathing water quality. It brings together citizen observations, official data, and environmental information across the Greater Caribbean on a single map.

REPORT WHAT YOU SEE

• Report a sargassum stranding and its extent.

• Add a geotagged photo.

• Indicate a damaged dam or the condition of a beach.

• Confirm an observation, track its progress, or mark it as resolved.

Every contribution helps document the situation on the ground.

A COLLABORATIVE MAP

Consult, depending on the available data:

• reports of sargassum and clean beaches;

• bathing water quality data from the Regional Health Agency (ARS);

• Official swimming alerts;

• Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) and ammonia (NH₃) measurements;

• Offshore sargassum monitoring;

• Meteorological and maritime information;

• Coastal webcams;

• Status and history of observations.

Official sources and their update dates remain identifiable.

BATHING WATER QUALITY

View bathing water quality directly on the map, based on data published by the Regional Health Agency (ARS), according to the areas covered. Find available quality levels, official alerts, and the source and update date of the information.

BETTER UNDERSTANDING THE RISKS

The decomposition of sargassum can release gases, including H₂S, which can affect health and quality of life near strandings. SargaTrack facilitates access to available data.

Maritime, satellite, and meteorological data complement land-based observations to better understand the presence of sargassum offshore. This data supports vigilance but does not replace bulletins or instructions from the relevant authorities.

A LINK WITH LOCAL STAKEHOLDERS

After reporting an issue, you can request that it be forwarded to the relevant services when this feature is available. This process is voluntary.

Local authorities and authorized stakeholders can access tools to view reports from their area, monitor affected zones, coordinate investigations, prepare interventions, track the resolution of situations, and generate summaries or exports.

A SHARED RECORD OF THE COASTLINE

Recorded observations document the evolution of the phenomenon over time. They can help identify regularly affected areas, supplement existing data, facilitate local coordination, and better inform the public.
