About this app

The sky on this dial is the sky outside.

Almanac reads your watch's own forecast and draws it. Clear, cloud, rain, storm, snow, fog, night — the dome above the clock changes with the weather. The sun crosses it as the day passes, and at night the moon takes its place, in its true phase. Nothing to pick. Nothing to switch on.

WEATHER NEEDS ONE PERMISSION, ONCE

Wear OS does not give watch faces location access by default, so the temperature shows --° until you allow it:

Settings > Security and privacy > Permission manager > Location > Watch faces > Allow while using the app

Almanac says this on the dial itself rather than leaving you with a blank space and no idea why. Everything else — time, date, steps, heart rate, battery, moon phase — works the moment you install it.

A REAL FORECAST, ON THE DIAL

- The next four hours: the condition and the temperature for each one
- Or the next three days: highs, lows and their conditions
- Or neither: heart rate and steps in the same band instead
- Today's high, low and chance of rain, in the line above the clock

THE DIAL

- A generated sky with three mountain ranges, a forested tree line, and snow on the peaks when it is actually snowing
- Sun and moon travel an arc across the day and the night rather than sitting in one place
- Heart rate, steps and battery in a row of their own, with a hairline gauge under the steps and the battery
- Unread notifications, shown only when there are any
- Date with the weekday, in your language

- 16 accent colours. One choice repaints the clock, the seconds, the gauges, the rain mark and the forecast rule together
- Clock in the accent, or in white
- 12 or 24 hour — follow the phone, or override it
- Seconds on or off
- Full dial, or Calm: sky, clock and weather only

ALWAYS-ON

Outline numerals, the horizon and the temperature. Nothing filled in, and no seconds field — the always-on screen refreshes once a minute, so a seconds field can only ever look frozen.

BUILT FOR WEAR OS 5 AND LATER

- No companion phone app. Nothing to install on your phone, nothing to open, nothing to keep.
- The forecast, the sensors and the sky above them all come from the watch itself, so the dial is never half empty.
- No ads. No subscription. No in-app purchase. No data collected.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

No distance and no calories. Watch Face Format has no data source for either, and no provider for them was found on any watch tested — so Almanac does not print a number it cannot stand behind.
