About this game

Coil is a snake game for Wear OS, built for a round watch instead of squeezed onto one. The board is a disc that fills the glass, so the whole screen is playable ground - not a square with the curve of the display thrown away around it.

It runs on the watch on its own. No phone, no account, no network.

HOW YOU STEER
Flick a short stroke anywhere on the glass, in the direction you want to go. Up is up: you never have to work out which way the snake is facing first. On a Galaxy Watch you can corner with the bezel too - the rotating one, or the touch ring on models that have no moving bezel. One way goes left, the other right.

NO FALSE GAME OVERS
Two quick flicks between one step and the next cannot fold the snake back into its own neck. Steering is buffered into a single pending turn, and that turn is checked against the heading the snake is actually travelling on, so a reversal is not a move this game can make. Every run you lose, you lose to something you saw.

THREE MODES
- OPEN - the rim is dashed, and it is a door. Leave through it and come back in on the far side. This is how the game opens.
- WALLS - the rim is solid and it ends the run.
- RUSH - walls, and a snake that grows faster than you expect.
They pay differently on purpose: an apple is worth 7 in OPEN, 10 in WALLS and 15 in RUSH.

FIVE SPEEDS, NAMED
CALM, EASY, NORMAL, BRISK, FIERCE. Names, not milliseconds. Each mode carries its own five, because the three do not open at the same pace.

YOUR SCORES ARE KEPT PROPERLY
A best score for every mode and every speed separately, so 300 on CALM OPEN is never quietly compared with 300 on FIERCE RUSH. Under it, the last 24 runs, each one stamped with the mode and the speed it was played on.

A RUN SURVIVES THE INTERRUPTION
Hold a still finger on the glass for a moment to pause. Drop your wrist and it pauses itself. The run is written to the watch's storage as it pauses, so it is still there - still paused, still yours - if the watch closes the app while you are busy with something else. It never resumes on its own: a snake already moving when you look back is a death you would not have seen.

Ending a run yourself keeps the score. It goes to your records and into the history exactly as a death does. A watch game gets interrupted constantly, and you should not have to choose between answering the door and keeping what you earned.

FOUR LOOKS
Phosphor, Ember, Ice and Ink. All of them dark, because an OLED watch spends power on every lit pixel and a game is a long stretch of screen-on time.

HAPTICS
A short tick when you eat and a longer one when you die. Off in one tap if you would rather play quietly.

IT COLLECTS NOTHING
One permission, VIBRATE, and that is the whole list. No network, no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising identifier, no ads, and nothing to buy inside it. The Data safety card reads No data collected because there is nothing to declare.

Needs Wear OS 3 or newer - every Galaxy Watch from the Watch4 onward. The game's own labels are in English.

What’s new

The menu now follows the font size set on your watch.

- Larger text no longer pushes the mode buttons or the colour row off the edge of the screen: rows wrap instead of running off the glass.
- Every card - how to play, pause, end of run - keeps its text inside the display at any font size.
- Small round watches: the cards now scroll instead of running past the curve of the glass.
