About this app

Fathom is an original diver's watch for Wear OS. A brushed rotating bezel, a printed minute chapter on the rehaut, applied batons at twelve, three, six and nine, and eight round lume plots in between.

THE SECOND HAND SWEEPS
It glides. It does not step once a second. Fathom uses Watch Face Format's own sweep for it, and the motion was measured on Galaxy Watch6 hardware rather than assumed. On a diver that one detail is most of the illusion.

EIGHT COMPLICATION SLOTS, ONE IN EVERY PLOT
The eight lume plots are eight complication slots, and eight is every slot the format allows. Point each one at an app on the watch, then tap the plot to open it: alarm, calendar, messages, phone, activity, stopwatch, torch, find my phone, whatever you actually use. Each slot takes a small image or a monochrome icon and draws the picture its own provider supplies. Leave one empty and it goes back to being a plain lume marker - no socket, no plus sign, no reserved box.

THE POWER RESERVE
A fine ring on the rehaut begins at twelve o'clock and grows clockwise with the charge, closing the circle at 100 per cent. The figure is printed below it, so you can read the number or just see how far round the ring has come.

WEATHER AND DATE
The temperature sits beside an engraved condition mark that the face chooses for itself. The date shows through an aperture at half past four, where a diver's date belongs.

ALWAYS-ON
The second hand leaves the dial altogether instead of freezing where it stopped. What stays is the lume: eight plots, four batons, the hour and minute hands. Measured at five per cent of the screen lit.

MAKE IT YOURS
Five dials - Abyss, Obsidian, Kelp, Rust and Glacier. Three lume colours - ice, emerald and vintage. A sword or a snowflake handset. That is thirty looks before you touch a switch. The date, the weather and the power reserve each have a switch of their own, and turning one off takes its window with it. Everything is chosen on the watch; there is no phone app to install.

WEATHER NEEDS ONE PERMISSION, ONCE
Wear OS does not grant watch faces location access by default, so the temperature reads as a dash until you allow it: Settings > Security and privacy > Permission manager > Location > Watch faces > Allow while using the app. Everything else - the time, the date, the power reserve and all eight shortcuts - works the moment you install it.
