About this app

BeThere helps schools create consistent, phone-free learning environments while giving students a clear, simple school-day experience.

Students join their school using a school code and authorized school email. During configured school hours, BeThere uses the school schedule, campus boundary, and approved school settings to determine when phone-free protections should be active.

Built for the school day

BeThere supports the key transitions of a student’s school day:

• School start and school end
• Campus arrival, departure, and return
• School messages and announcements
• Clear phone-free protection and campus status

School administrators manage these settings through the BeThere Admin Portal, including the campus boundary, school hours, student roster, school message, and phone-free configuration.

Android AccessibilityService

On Android, BeThere uses the AccessibilityService API as part of School Mode. The service is used to identify the app currently in the foreground so BeThere can apply the school’s configured phone-free restrictions during the school day.

BeThere sends hashed app identifiers linked to student and device identifiers for school-day enforcement diagnostics.

BeThere does not use AccessibilityService to read messages, passwords, screen contents, text you type, photos, or the contents of other apps.

Students are shown an in-app disclosure and must provide consent before they are directed to enable BeThere’s AccessibilityService in Android settings.

A clear experience for students

The BeThere student app shows:

• Current school-day status
• Campus status
• Whether phone-free protection is active
• School messages
• Setup and permission status

Students complete a guided setup using their school code and verified school email.

Designed with privacy in mind

BeThere uses location permission to determine whether the device is within the school’s configured campus boundary. Location may be used when the app is closed or not in use so BeThere can detect campus entry and exit during the school day.

Location is used for school-day functionality, not advertising.

BeThere does not display a student’s live location to other students, sell personal information, or include advertising.

Reliable school-day enforcement

BeThere is designed to support phone-free expectations throughout the school day, including school start, school end, leaving campus, and returning to campus.

Availability and functionality depend on the student’s school participating in BeThere and configuring the school through the BeThere Admin Portal.
