Crestrunner is a personal watercraft racing game built around one idea: water you can see straight through.
Every course carves its bed along the racing line, and every level hides a shallow bar on that line where the bed rises to within a couple of metres of the surface. You never have to go looking for the view. It is on the line, not off to one side, and it arrives at racing speed with your hull over it.
120 LEVELS, THREE KINDS OF WATER
Twelve worlds of ten levels, and every world mixes sea, lake and river courses. They do not handle alike. Sea swell lifts and drops the whole craft under you. Lake water is flatter and rewards a clean, patient line. Rivers push: the current works on you the whole lap, the channel is narrower, and the banks do not move out of the way.
FIVE DIFFICULTY TIERS
Difficulty is not a slider here. Each tier changes the water and the field. The waves get bigger, the racing corridor gets narrower, the river current gets stronger, the race goes from two laps to three, the field grows from three rivals to seven, those rivals get quicker and make fewer mistakes, and the gold time gets tighter. Tier 1 is calm, wide and forgiving. Tier 5 is heavy swell down the tightest corridor in the game, against a full field.
SIX SKIES
Bright noon, golden hour, overcast, storm, dawn and night. The night and dawn courses are the ones to see the water tech on: the bed is still there under you when the sun is not.
RIVALS WITH A SHAPE
Three to seven rivals depending on the tier, and the field is spread across a range of skill instead of being one wall of identical riders. Tuck into a rival's wake and the draft charges your boost. Hold a slide and that charges it too.
FIFTEEN TRICKS
Backflip, Superman, barrel rolls, tabletop, one-hander and a 360 spin to start with; frontflips, corkscrews, a no-hander, a heel clicker, double backflips and 720 spins unlock as you climb the worlds. Launch off a wave crest, swipe in mid-air to start a trick, chain them for a multiplier, and watch the landing marker: it tells you whether you are coming down safe, marginal, or into a crash.
MEDALS, STARS AND YOUR OWN BEST TIME
Gold, silver and bronze on every level, and three stars for a gold. Your personal best per level is stored on your device, and the HUD runs a live delta against it while you race, so you always know whether this lap is the one.
THREE WAYS TO STEER
Tilt the device, use the on-screen stick, or tap-to-turn, which is there for players who cannot hold a phone steady or reach across a large screen. Keyboards and gamepads work as well. Steering sensitivity, camera motion and driving assists are all adjustable, and you can change any of them mid-race from the pause screen.
FREE ROAM
An open training lagoon with no rivals and no clock, for getting the hull under your hands.
PLAYS OFFLINE
No account and no sign-in. Every level is playable with no connection, and your settings and best times are stored on your device. Advertisements and the optional Premium unlock, which removes them, use the network when you are online.
