Palate is a private guide to the meals worth remembering.
Most food apps are designed for strangers: public ratings, scrolling feeds, restaurants jostling for your attention. Palate is the opposite. It's a quiet, beautifully typeset record kept by you, for you. The kind of document a stranger might mistake for a published book if they ever saw it.
Log a restaurant. Press a meal between its pages. Form an opinion in your own words. Do that twenty times and the shape of your taste begins to show itself.
THE GUIDE
Every restaurant gets a tier: three stars, two stars, one star, a "Bib" for the casual gem, a "Plate" for a noteworthy meal, "Watching" for the room you want to revisit, "Block" for the one you'd send back. Marks are private and editorial; they're how you'd describe the place to a friend, not how the world describes it to you.
THE BOOK
In December, your year compiles into an annual guide. Typeset, paginated, exportable as a PDF you can print, share, or keep. Your guide. Your voice. Yours alone.
THE FEATURES
· Editorial guide with seven tiers and your own pull-quote per restaurant
· Map of every place you've saved, plus discovery for places you haven't
· Photo journal: meals attached to a visit, never to a feed
· Multi-visit timeline per restaurant, with companions and occasions
· Search across cuisines, neighborhoods, years, and people
· Insights: which cuisines you tend toward, which restaurants have become standing orders, which years were the leanest
· Annual PDF export: your year, in print
· Sync across devices. Firestore-backed; sign in once, your guide follows you
THE PRINCIPLES
PRIVATE BY DEFAULT. Your entries are visible only to you. We never publish, syndicate, or sell.
QUIET DESIGN. No notifications. No streak nags. No leaderboards. The app trusts you to come back when you have something to write.
TASTE OVER METRICS. There are no aggregate scores, no public five-star averages, no "trending now." There is only your record, in your words.
YOURS TO LEAVE. Self-serve account deletion in Settings; if you go, your data goes with you.
Palate is free to use, with a 30-restaurant ceiling on the free edition. A Pro tier is in the works. When it ships, it lifts the cap, adds photo galleries on every visit, and unlocks the printable annual PDF for personal printing.
