Birdfox Recorder

BIRDFOX Wildlife Devices

About this app

Birdfox Recorder is a field recording app built for bioacoustics, with a real-time spectrogram and waveform.

For birds and other audible-range wildlife it works with any microphone — including the one already in your phone. Plug in an external field microphone such as Birdmic when you want better reach and less handling noise, but nothing is required to get started.

For bats you need the Batmic accessory, a frequency-division ultrasound detector: no phone microphone can hear ultrasound on its own.

WHAT'S INSIDE
- Real-time spectrogram and waveform, with pinch-zoom and gesture-based scrolling
- Unprocessed audio input — no automatic gain control interfering with faint or fast calls
- Background recording, screen off
- Pre-record buffer, so the seconds before you tap Record are not lost
- Every recording tagged with precise GPS location and GUANO metadata, the standard in bioacoustics
- Library with search, filters, photo notes, and audio trim
- No account, no sign-up, no internet connection required: your recordings stay on your phone

WITH BATMIC
- The frequency scale reads in real bat frequencies, up to 120 kHz
- Live listen-through via the phone speaker
- Display settings tuned for ultrasound

Birdfox Recorder shows no ads, doesn't track your activity, and never uploads your recordings to a server.
