I've only just started using Bird Journal, so I'm learning. My bird lists are usually on scraps of paper, so this is better! I'm looking for a help section because I tend to start looking for an answer in the middle of an entry. For example What does Highlight mean? Also is there a way to search for a bird's name by its general name first, rather that the specific name first? I think of those names as last and first names.

Wanted to use this initially for my life list, but it's no good for retrospective sightings (I have sightings from the late 50's). Update - 1st August 2026 - on reflection, yes it deserves more than 2 stars, it has far more depth to it than I at first thought. However, like other bird apps, if you're ancient, and want to input your life list using the correct dates, it's pretty impossible to backtrack the calendar to the 60's or 70's, so for me it's not that useful.

The latest update since you tried this includes many input improvements, including: "Observations" input mode, more suited to historical input, and "Tap and Hold" to add a species more quickly. Hope you can try again and let us know details of any friction so we can help you have a smooth experience.

I've had this app for many years, and it has served me well. The latest updates have been fantastic. What you get from the desktop version, is now more or less all in the App. I can now add photos directly from Google photos, check locations and access all graphs. It's a 👍 from me

• Changes to an observation apply as you make them, and deleting one really deletes it

• Fixes to filters, species browsing and list counts
