Upon reading all the reviews of losing connection I feel it necessary to share this with everyone. Before ever updating BI make a backup of the current version. This is really easy to do. Just go to the directory you installed it to and make a copy of the Blueiris.exe file. Hoover your mouse over the file, right click, select copy then select paste. This will create a copy of the known good version that you can fall back to. If an update goes awry just delete the new .exe and then rename the copy back to Blueiris.exe. If you are running as a service you will first have to turn that off.
CANNOT CONNECT WITH NEW UPDATE! thank God I checked here as I've spent 2 hours reconfiguring everything ffs! Come on! I did read somewhere to disable update and now I will! Ken used to be so helpful as I've used blue iris for around 4 years now. Seems he's way to big for his boots now and support is non existent. I even offered to pay for support however I was ignored 3rd email in..... He even said, "go use other software if you'd like"..... Sigh.... I'm now looking into "security spy" which has astounding support.
It appears you need to update your desktop Blue Iris software to version 188.8.131.52 for the latest mobile app to connect to the server. I too this morning had the "Cannot connect to the server message". I noticed there was a new version of the desktop software dated today (5/18/2017) and installed it. Mobile app now connects just fine. Would have been helpful if they had mentioned that fact on the app page.
I love being able to monitor my cameras and receive alerts remotely, but the app could use a lot of work. Interface is clunky and hard to navigate , searching recorded video is cumbersome and error prone, frequently hangs when connecting to cameras, rewinding, fast-forwarding or changing playback speed, loses thumbnails when reviewing recorded clips. The settings are confusing and not well documented. Otherwise, its very handy
This works fairly well for accessing Blue Iris remotely. I find the connection can get screwed up requiring a force stop if you do updated in the widget too frequently.
New update has me suddenly unable to connect. Again. Needs better QA before pushing updates. You never know when you will be rendered unable to see your cameras, which makes a mobile app pointless.
