About this app

Menchan is a relaxing smartphone app where a flapjack octopus floats around, introduces you to nearby ocean spots, helps you learn the names of fish, and allows you to create an ocean encyclopedia with photos you take.

[A Relaxing Deep-Sea Life with a Flapjack Octopus]

You can pet the flapjack octopus by tapping it, and it will become attached to you. When it gets hungry, feed it "food" such as shrimp or konpeito candy to restore its HP. Its HP will gradually decrease over time, so take care of it a little each day. As you continue to care for it, the flapjack octopus will grow.

[An Ocean Creature Encyclopedia and Name Quiz]

Various ocean creatures such as garden eels, clownfish, and pygmy seahorses swim around the screen. Once you learn their names, you can challenge yourself with a "Name Quiz," and you'll earn experience points for correct answers. There's also a review function that will present the quiz again when you've forgotten, so you can naturally learn the names while playing.

[Create Your Own Picture Encyclopedia with Photos]

By uploading photos of marine life you've actually taken while diving or at aquariums, you can create your own personal picture encyclopedia. You can record the date, time, location, and comments of the photo, and if you link it with your Google account, it will be backed up to the cloud, so you don't have to worry about changing devices. There's also a "Friends' Photos" feature to share photos with users you've befriended via QR code, and a "Everyone's Photos" feature to view photos published by other users.

[Get Nearby Sea Spots from Your Current Location]

By turning on location information, your sea creatures will tell you about nearby diving spots, aquariums, remote islands, and beaches (you can turn this off in the settings).

[Decorate Your Dumbo Octopus]

You can dress up your Dumbo Octopus with various decorative items such as hats, clothes, and accessories. Collect coins to buy items from the shop, or get monthly changing items to raise your own unique Dumbo Octopus.

[Day and Night, the Shifting Deep Sea]

The world within the screen changes between day and night depending on the time of day, and when you switch to deep-sea mode, you'll encounter a different array of creatures than usual.
