About this app

BrainChip Connect is the companion app for devices built on the Akida AKD1500
neuromorphic accelerator, including the AkidaTag reference platform and the
BrainBoard1500. It pairs over Bluetooth Low Energy and puts the device's
configuration, its models and its live results on the phone in your hand.

100% ON-DEVICE
Inference runs on the Akida accelerator inside the device, not in the cloud and
not on your phone. The app itself has no backend, no account and no network
permission in a released build, so nothing it shows you can be sent anywhere.
There is no cloud dependency to opt out of, because there is no cloud.

CONNECT
Scan for devices nearby and pair with one tap. The app recognises BrainChip
hardware by the accelerator id it advertises, so it finds yours whatever the
device happens to be called. Once connected you can read its serial number,
firmware version, Bluetooth protocol and battery level.

LOAD A MODEL
See the applications a device carries and what each one is: the model it runs,
the shape of its input, how many classes it knows and, for keyword spotting,
the exact list of words it listens for. Run Application loads the chosen model
into the Akida accelerator and shows you the wait while the device swaps it in.

WATCH RESULTS AS THEY HAPPEN
Keyword spotting shows the word the device heard and how confident it was,
beside a live trace of the microphone it is listening on. Human detection shows
what the camera found, with a live preview streamed from the device itself.
Every reading is the device's own: the app draws what it is sent and invents
nothing.

TEACH IT YOUR VOICE
Switch on Edge Learning and the device learns from what it hears, on the spot
and on its own silicon. No retraining in the cloud, and nothing sent away to
learn from.

TUNE THE DETECTOR
Change how the device decides, without rebuilding its firmware: RMS threshold,
debounce time, smoothing, score threshold, chiming threshold and speech
timeout. Each one is sent to the device and acknowledged by it, and the
defaults are one tap away.

KEEP A RECORD
An event history of what each device reported, held on your phone, so you can
look back over what happened while you were not watching.

UPDATE OVER THE AIR
Update device firmware and swap the AI model over Bluetooth, from a package you
pick out of your phone's own storage. Each update reports what the device
actually did with it: whether the file was stored and verified, and whether the
new model was programmed into the accelerator and proven to infer. A model that
is stored but will not run is reported as exactly that, rather than as a
success.

PERMISSIONS
Three, and no more: Bluetooth scan, Bluetooth connect and notifications. No
analytics, no crash reporting, no telemetry, no account and no server. Nothing
you do in the app is collected, shared or sold.

WHAT YOU NEED
A BrainChip device carrying the AKD1500 accelerator, and an Android phone
running Android 13 or later with Bluetooth switched on.
