An app with one goal: to ruin a photo or video so badly that only memory remains.
How it works: The app scales down the selected photo, compresses it with a JPEG algorithm until it's a shambles, and then stretches it back to its original size. This process is what produces those squares, streaks, and color halos you've seen on social media sites where the image has been resaved two hundred times.
Two sliders.
The compression level is at the bottom. The further to the right, the less true the file is.
The jackal-like motion is on the right. The higher the slider, the fewer pixels will survive. At maximum, a few pixels remain, stretched to fill the entire screen.
The app then opens automatically. The more different photos you run through it and save, the more tools become available: disabling anti-aliasing when stretching, a separate sharpening slider over artifacts, compression along only one axis, and other compression algorithms. Almost every advancement adds something new to the interface. You'll find out exactly what when you get there.
Video jackalism. The video deteriorates along with the sound: the image disintegrates into blocks, and the voice turns into the rasp of an old phone. The most interesting mode works with volume. While you're silent, the video is almost intact, but if you start screaming, the frame and voice crumble into mush. Shoot a video directly from the app and see how loud you can scream.
The result is saved to the gallery with a single click.
There's also a reverse mode: an attempt to restore a damaged photo to an acceptable state using a neural network model. Processing occurs on the device itself; the photo is not uploaded anywhere. Some models are already included in the app, while others are downloaded at your discretion.
No accounts or registration. No ads, no analytics, no in-app purchases. Photos and videos never leave your phone.
The app contains humor intended for an adult audience.
Ruins photos and videos with JPEG. Shout at the camera, and the jackal will eat everything.
