About this game
Budbrain's Chess is a lovingly crafted chess game with 100 levels — from ELO 150 for newcomers up to ELO 1900 for club players. The warm parchment theme recalls an old chess notebook and turns every game into a quiet moment.
★ 100 levels in 10 stages
The AI grows stronger stage by stage. Each of the ten stages brings its own board design — from pale pine and marble through to deep obsidian.
★ A fair handicap system
In the early levels your opponent plays without a queen, without knights, or with nothing but king and pawns. That gives you a real chance as a beginner and lets you learn chess step by step.
★ A dice roll at the start
Before every game you both roll. The higher roll plays White and makes the first move; on a tie you start. If you play Black, the board turns around with you.
★ Help for every skill level
Tap a piece to see all its legal moves. The Hint button suggests a good move. Your own threatened pieces flash red. Flipping the board, undo and auto-save are there as a matter of course.
★ Three-star rating
Every game you win is rated 1, 2 or 3 stars, depending on how efficiently you played. Use the hint and you get at most 1 star: fair play counts.
★ Gallery of achievements
Your best won game for each level is kept as its final position, with moves, time and stars. One glance shows you how far you have come.
★ Attract mode
Leave the app alone for a while and the AI carries on playing itself in the menu. A single tap and it is your move again.
★ 22 languages
Choose one yourself or let the app follow your system language.
