About this app

The “Discover Domfront” application offers you to relive the highlights of Domfront castle and medieval city’s history.
The Castle Tour (1 hour), accessible to persons with reduced mobility, will have you meet with characters who will bring you back in the past: the conquest of the Domfront area by William the Conqueror to extend his Duchy of Normandy, the life at Eleanor of Aquitaine’s court, the staying of Chrétien de Troyes who is said to have written “Lancelot, the Knight of the Cart” here, episodes of the Hundred Years War… From the top of the castle, enjoy an exceptional panorama and a reading in augmented reality of the landscape of the Domfront country and its legendary sites of Pont de l’Epée (sword bridge) and Pont sous l’Eau (under water bridge).

In the city, the City Tour (1,2 km, 1 h) in which audio situations invite you to share daily life in the Middle Ages: shops, crafts, defending the city…

Below the old city, at the foot of the rocks, you will walk along the Varenne river for a 3.3 km long tour (1 h 15) and be immersed, as if you were a 19th century traveler, in the picturesque atmosphere of the tormented landscapes around Domfront, a source of inspiration for painters and writers.

In the course of these three tours, let us tell you Domfront’s history: dramatized sketches, as well as games and quizzes will allow you a playful visit. On site, the application can be downloaded at the Tourist Office in Domfront.
