I'm not a wine expert. I'm an independent developer who loves wine and simply wanted to get better at it: understand what I like, remember it, and open the right bottle at the right time.
My problem was never counting my bottles. It was that every time I opened one, the impression faded: a few months later, I couldn't say what I had thought of it.
CapySommelier is the app I wrote for that: keep a record of what I drink, learn from my own tastings, and know what to open tonight. It manages the cellar too, of course — but the cellar serves everything else.
Everything starts with a bottle: add it from the "My wines" tab, with a photo or by hand (free).
WHAT YOU DRANK, AND WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF IT
Open a bottle from its wine card: it joins your journal (the "Tastings" tab), to rate right away or later. Each tasting keeps your score, your impressions, the aromas you noted and the season of the wine. After a few months, you no longer rediscover your tastes: you know them.
A GUIDED TASTING, EVEN AS A BEGINNER
When you rate a bottle, you are guided step by step: the eye, the nose, the palate. You get a score out of 20 and a balance profile you can read at a glance. And if the wine card has a purchase price, guess it before you see it: the app keeps score.
WHAT TO DRINK TONIGHT?
As soon as you have bottles in stock, tell the "What to drink?" tab the occasion or the dish: it suggests what to open from the bottles you actually own.
OPEN IT AT THE RIGHT TIME
Every wine has its drinking window, estimated when you scan the label or entered on its wine card. Turn on reminders in your profile (avatar at the top right of the home screen → Reminders → Wines to drink): once a month, CapySommelier lists the bottles that have reached their window.
LEARN WITHOUT A TEXTBOOK
From your very first bottle, its wine card comes with a "Did you know?" from Capy, your capybara sommelier, and Capy shares more on the home screen. When you rate an opened bottle, every criterion has an ⓘ badge: tap it to learn what it measures and how to judge it. Tannins, length, balance... The words come when you need them, not before.
AND OF COURSE, YOUR CELLAR
In the "Cellar" tab, recreate your shelves and place each bottle in its rack or leave it loose. When you open a bottle you have placed, the cellar shows you where it is. On the home screen, a dashboard shows your stock, its breakdown (type, grape, region, drinking window) and its value if you entered prices. And the whole cellar exports as a printable PDF, for free (Profile → My data).
A WINE CARD FROM ONE PHOTO
Snap the label (1 Capy credit): producer, appellation, vintage, grape varieties and region are filled in for you, along with the drinking window and serving advice. You review and correct everything before saving.
FREE AND PREMIUM
Your cellar, your tastings, your journal and the "What to drink?" advice are free and unlimited. Only the features powered by artificial intelligence, such as label scanning, use Capy credits: you get 10 when you arrive, and they never expire. After that, it's up to you — credit packs, or the Supporter plan, which adds 30 credits every month and unlocks your taste profile: once you have 5 rated tastings, Capy describes your palate by comparing what you love with what is in your cellar (1 credit per analysis). The Supporter plan requires linking a Google account.
YOUR DATA
You can use the app without creating an account. Link a Google account (Profile → Account) and your cellar follows you from one device to another. You can delete your account and all your data at any time, from within the app (Profile → Help & legal).
Available in English and French (Profile → Language).
Please drink responsibly. This app is intended for people of legal drinking age.
Arrange your cellar, rate your tastings, learn wine without the jargon.
