About this game

CREATIVE PLAYER’S GAMES
card and cube #3 is a platform for games with square cards. At any time, the design of the cards can be switched between four figures. The cards can be rotated in steps of 90°. So, they can be displayed in four different orientations.
In the default mode the figure is black, and the background is white. Using a colour picker practically any pair of colours can be chosen for the figure and the background. In addition, each card can be monochrome square in the colour assigned to either the figure or the background.
Cards filling an area present a bicolour pattern that is changed by rotating any of them. Any pattern of interest can be recorded in several ways (for details see paragraph COPIES below).
Using three of the four figures 1,296 different geometric patterns can be created from 4 cards in the 2x2 format (card quartets) each. With various strategies for merging such or larger groups of cards, an almost unlimited number of images can be created. Like in tessellation, the card groups can be placed next to each other flushed, offset or rotated. There are 15 playing areas available ranging from 2x2 to 20x30 cards.
The smallest format is ideal to demonstrate different kinds of 2D symmetries.
As compared to card and cube #2, the present game offers a practically unlimited choice of colour pairs for the chosen figure and the background. Furthermore, in cardandcube #3 there is a choice to use monochrome cards instead of figures. On the other side, cardandcube #2 presents a unique option to alter the complete picture on the display by rotating all cards around their axes by 90° at once. Thus, it takes three clicks to make four pictures out of one.
Creating decorative geometric images according to your own imagination is ideal for creative relaxation in your free time or while waiting. You may also be inspired by geometric patterns from the Middle Ages and antiquity. After filling the playing area enjoy changing your creations by switching between the card designs, or by introducing random or systematic changes in the card orientation in selected positions. Make unique irregularities or play to create symmetry and order.
COPIES of the patterns can be saved to a clipboard or your device's memory, exported as images (filename.png) and stored or shared (filename.card3), or printed. The shared images can then be edited by fellow players according to preagreed rules, whereby the number of moves and the time it takes to solve a graphic task can be recorded and compared among a group of players.
The card and cube #3 website www.cardandcube.de has instructions for two competitive games, Gulag 1948 and To Freedom! When you open dungeons in these games, you can feel yourself in spirit as a champion of democracy, plurality and freedom. Think of Beethoven's Fidelio or listen to the music as you free the political prisoners held captive by contemporary dictators in the game.
The game is suitable for education and discussions on topics of freedom and human rights.
