Paint a plate with materials and watch π heat spread across it in real time β±οΈ.
Gilluk is a heat-flow lab for your phone π±. Paint a square plate with different materials, set a hot side and a cold side, and watch π the temperature spread across it.
Pick copper, aluminium, steel, concrete π§±, granite, glass, water gel, oak, still air or foam. Drag β across the plate to lay the material down. Heat moves fast β‘ through copper and slowly through foam, and you see π the difference as it happens. Colour bands and contour lines show where the heat has reached.
What you can do in Gilluk:
- Paint materials onto the plate with an adjustable brush.
- Place hot sources and cold sinks, or unfix a cell again.
- Place probes on the plate and read their live temperatures.
- Follow the equilibrium percentage and the estimated time β±οΈ to steady state on the Desk.
- Load one of eight ready-made plates, such as Copper Spreader, Heat-Sink Fin, Cold Bridge and Thermal Maze.
- Save πΎ your own plates and keep a log π of every run.
When a plate settles, the run is logged. Open its report π§Ύ to see π probe temperature curves, how the temperature distribution changes over time β±οΈ, and a heat budget π° that shows what flows in and what flows out.
The Materials tab lists each material with its thermal diffusivity. Open one to see π its conductivity, density and specific heat, and a chart π of how a pulse of heat spreads through it over time β±οΈ. You can also add up to three materials of your own.
Gilluk suits students, teachers, engineers and anyone curious about how heat moves through different materials.
