About this app

Bharati (Bahubhashi Anuvad Sarthi) is the official translation application of the Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. It is developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) in furtherance of the Official Languages Act, 1963, and the objective of promoting the progressive use of Hindi and the Indian languages of the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution in the official work of the Union.

The application provides machine translation. It is intended for officials of Central and State Government offices, as well as students, researchers and members of the public.

CAPABILITIES

- Translation of typed or pasted text
- Translation of speech through voice input
- Translation of documents in Microsoft Word, PDF, Excel, plain text and related formats
- Extraction and translation of printed text using the device camera, performed on the device
- Translation Memory to maintain terminology and consistency across documents
- Organisation of translated files into folders, with access to earlier translations
- A multilingual dictionary
- Guest access to instant text translation without registration

DATA PROTECTION

- The application contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking components.
- Biometric data used for sign-in is processed by the device operating system and is never transmitted to or stored by the application.
- Communication with Government servers is encrypted and protected by certificate pinning.
- Data is hosted on infrastructure of the Government of India.

Bharati continues the work of Kanthasth 2.0 towards the wider adoption of Indian languages in official communication and the preservation of the linguistic heritage of the country.
