About this app

ChainRanger turns your phone into a disc golf rangefinder. Point your camera at the basket and the on-device AI finds it and shows the distance instantly — in meters or feet, plus whether the basket sits uphill or downhill. No laser, no GPS waiting, no pacing it off.

HOW IT WORKS
• Aim your camera at the disc golf basket.
• ChainRanger detects the basket in real time and calculates the distance.
• A stabilized reading shows on screen.

All image processing happens 100% on your phone. Camera frames are never uploaded anywhere.

KNOW YOUR CIRCLES
Distance to the basket is not just a number — it decides which rules and stats apply:

• Circle 1 (C1) is everything within 10 meters (33 ft) of the basket. Inside Circle 1 the putting stance rule applies: after releasing the putt you may not step past your marker, you must show full balance behind it. ChainRanger tells you instantly whether you are inside the 10 m circle, so a borderline lie never catches you out.

• Circle 2 (C2) reaches from 10 to 20 meters (33–66 ft). Putts made from here separate good rounds from great ones.

• Parked, C1X and C2 are the stat categories that actually measure putting. When you know the exact distance, every putt goes into the right category.

ELEVATION — AND HOW IT PLAYS
Distance alone doesn't tell the whole story: an uphill hole plays longer and a downhill one shorter — and because a disc glides, every meter of elevation changes the throw far more than in ball golf. ChainRanger reads your phone's tilt and shows the uphill or downhill angle along with the height difference.

BASKET MODELS AND CALIBRATION
Baskets come in different sizes, and knowing the size is the basis of the whole measurement. Several basket models are built in — pick the one on your course, or enter the dimensions yourself. You can calibrate your camera at any known distance: type in the distance you are standing at (the hole length from the tee sign, for example), aim at the basket and set the focal length.

PERFECT FOR PUTTING PRACTICE
Set up at exact distances for structured putting routines. Train at 5, 7 and 10 meters instead of guessing — and watch your C1X percentage climb.

FREE AND FULL RANGE
• Free: exact distance everywhere inside Circle 1 (10 m) — every C1 putt covered.
• Full Range (one-time purchase, no subscription): exact distance at all ranges, including Circle 2 and beyond, plus the plays-like distance on sloped holes.

Seems like a great idea. Functions were easy to use. Would love to give the full thing a try. it needs a 7 day free trial or something. The free version only does out to 10m or something. I'd like to see how accurate it is 30-70m out before dropping $10+. Difference between a 8m or 10m putt is not changing much.

Thanks for the feedback! Google Play only supports free trials on subscriptions — Full Range is a one-time purchase, no subscription, so a trial isn't technically possible. However, to celebrate the app's launch I'm currently giving out a limited batch of promo codes to test Full Range for free. Email the support address in the listing to grab one!

Seems good so far on pixel 8a, only complaint is a steep pro price for circle 2+ without knowing whether my phone will be able to be accurate that far out. Thank you for no ads, but could you integrate a trial for the pro version? Maybe a few days or a 5-10 minute timer while a basket is in view. If it's accurate on my phone I will pay, but I'd hate to lose the money if it falls off outside of 50'.

Outstanding tool! it is extremely accurate out to the edge of C2 and beyond, incredibly user friendly and easy to switch between the baskets on your particular course. It does what it is intended to do simply and accurately, who could ask for more?

What’s new

• Steadier reading on long shots: past 40 m the distance settles over a longer window and no longer flickers.
• Slope and plays-like use the phone's tilt from the moment the frame was captured, so they hold still while you move.
• Settings follow the system dark mode; accuracy modes have plain-language descriptions.
• Settings › Calibration shows which lens is calibrated; technical focal-length values moved under Advanced.
• Calibrations and settings move to a new phone with Android backup.
