About this app

Some days disappear before you write them down. Today Was makes keeping them
simple: open, speak naturally, and save the moment in your own words.

Today Was is a private, voice-first journal for remembering everyday life
without pressure to write a perfect entry. It preserves the original
transcript and can gently shape it into a clearer version on your device. You
can always return to what you actually said.

On Android, save up to 10 journal days free. Add more moments to a saved day
anytime. Full Journal is a one-time Google Play
purchase that permanently unlocks additional journal days. It includes 12
months of Weather & Atlas after account verification. Weather & Atlas provides
complete weather snapshots, history, and memory maps. After the included year,
continue it monthly or annually only if you choose. Canceling never removes a
memory, photo, recording, saved weather snapshot, location pin, or export.

REMEMBER THE WHOLE SETTING

With an active Weather & Atlas entitlement and your permission, Today Was can
add an approximate place, local weather, and moon phase to a memory. Choose Pin
exact location, weather & map preview when you want to keep an exact private
pin, open it in a satellite map, and save a complete daily and hourly weather
snapshot together. Expand a saved day to explore temperature, humidity,
precipitation, wind, pressure, cloud cover, visibility, UV, and more. The
app’s look shifts with the time of day and weather. Extreme conditions are
marked on journaled days, making unusual moments easier to find later.

BUILT FOR PRIVACY

New journal entries, transcripts, photos, audio, settings, and saved day
context are encrypted and stored on your device. Today Was does not upload new
journal content to its servers. Search and the included private polish run on
your device after your vault is unlocked.

When an active Weather & Atlas entitlement authorizes a weather request, Today
Was's authenticated relay temporarily processes the selected rounded location
or city search and requested date to request data from Open-Meteo Professional.
The relay is designed not to persist raw coordinates, dates, or city searches
in the account database, commerce records, journal, or application
analytics/logs. Pin exact location, weather & map preview is an explicit
per-memory action; its exact point and date use the same relay. An inline
satellite preview requests only the displayed map area from Esri, and opening
the full pin shares its coordinate with the map app you choose. The pin and
returned daily and hourly snapshot are stored inside one encrypted,
device-local memory.

Weather data are supplied by Open-Meteo under CC BY 4.0. Today Was formats and
visualizes those data; weather is model information, not an on-site sensor
reading. Open-Meteo does not endorse Today Was.

Live speech recognition is supplied by the Android recognition service selected
on the device and may be processed according to that service’s settings and
privacy terms. You can always type an entry instead.

YOUR STORY, PORTABLE

Create a decrypted export with your words and media when you want a copy you
control, then import it later. There is currently no automatic cloud backup or
multi-device sync, so keep your recovery key and exports somewhere safe. Today
Was cannot recover a lost key.
