Choosing a film for your family shouldn't mean wading through spoilers, or trusting a single age rating to sum up two hours of film.
CheckFlicks tells you what's actually in a film, and roughly when, so you can decide before you press play.
SET YOUR CHILD'S AGE
Move the slider and every film re-sorts around that child. A film that works at 10 may not work at 6, and the app says so instead of leaving you to guess.
SCENE-BY-SCENE SKIP MAPS
Instead of "contains mild peril", you get the moments themselves: what happens, roughly when, and how intense it is. Skip the two minutes that would upset your six-year-old and keep the rest of the film.
NO SPOILERS UNLESS YOU ASK
Descriptions stay vague by default. Tap to reveal the detail only when you actually want it.
TUNE IT TO YOUR FAMILY
Violence, scary scenes, language, romance, alcohol and drugs, death and grief — set your own tolerance for each. Every family draws the line somewhere different, so the app lets you draw yours.
STAR THE ONES YOU LIKE
Keep a list of films to come back to, and hide the ones you've ruled out.
HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT IS
Some timings are measured against the film itself, and some are still approximate. Every guide says which. We improve them every day. They're a good guide rather than the last word, so trust your own judgement on anything that really matters. If something looks wrong, tell us from inside the app and it goes to our editors.
