About this app

Exploring Kumamoto more freely.

"KumaMobi" is an app that brings together public transportation and tourist information for Kumamoto Prefecture. Find tram and bus connections, check timetables, and then visit tourist spots directly. You can get everything you need while traveling without having to switch between apps.

■ Tram, Bus, and Train Transfer Guide

Simply select your departure point and destination, and the app will display the optimal route. It supports Kumamoto City Tram, Kumamoto Electric Railway, and four bus companies: Sanko Bus, Kumamoto Urban Bus, Kumamoto Bus, and Dentetsu Bus. Even routes requiring transfers are shown, including walking time.

You can specify your departure time "now," or freely choose from today, tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow. Whether you want to check the first bus in the morning or confirm your return route in the evening, this app is perfect.

The searched route is displayed on a map. You can see which roads the buses take and where transfers are necessary, making it easy to navigate even in unfamiliar places.

■ Timetable by Bus Stop

Entering the name of a bus stop or station will display the departure times organized by direction. You can see at a glance "which direction and at what time buses depart from this stop."

In today's timetable, already departed buses are folded away, and the next bus is highlighted. Tapping on a time will show you the route for that bus.

■ Tourist Spots and Stamp Rally

Kumamoto Castle, Suizenji Jojuen Garden, Sakurano-baba Jōsaien Garden, and other tourist attractions. Statues in the city, beloved local restaurants, and cultural properties—a total of 25 locations—can be found on the map by category.

A stamp rally function is also included, allowing you to collect stamps by visiting the locations. Approaching a spot and pressing a button will stamp it with the sound of a Japanese drum. Collecting all stamps in a category will celebrate your achievement with a small animation. Collected stamps can be shared on social media.


■ Supports 4 Languages

Supports Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, and Thai. Bus stop names and tourist spot names are displayed in each language.

■ Designed to Minimize Data Usage

Timetables and route data are included within the app, and all searches are completed within your device. Since no data is transmitted except for map display, you can use it without worrying about data usage while traveling. Information about your searched departure and destination locations is not transmitted externally.

■ About the Data

This app is created based on public transportation data (GTFS) and tourism/cultural property information published on the Kumamoto City Open Data Catalog website. Details of the sources can be found in "Settings → Data Sources" within the app. Map data utilizes OpenStreetMap contributors and OpenFreeMap.

■ Future Plans

Development is ongoing. We plan to gradually improve the app by adding tourist spots, coupon functions, and expanding the supported area. Please let us know if you have any comments or requests.

Kumamobi brings together public transport and tourist information for Kumamoto Prefecture. Search for a route, check the timetable, then head to a sightseeing spot, all without switching between apps.

■ Route search for trams, buses and trains

Choose your starting point and destination, and Kumamobi finds the best route. It covers the Kumamoto City Tram, Kumamoto Electric Railway, and four bus operators: Sanko Bus, Kumamoto Toshi Bus, Kumamoto Bus, and Dentetsu Bus. Routes with transfers include walking times between stops.

You can search for departures now, or pick a time from today, tomorrow, or the day after.

Every route is drawn on the map, so you can see which roads the bus takes and where to change. Helpful when you are somewhere for the first time.

■ Timetables by stop

Enter a stop or station name to see departures organized by direction. You can tell at a glance when the next service leaves and where it is heading.

For today, services that have already departed are folded away so the next one stands out. Tap any time to see the route for that service.

■ Sightseeing spots and stamp rally

Twenty-five places to discover: Kumamoto Castle, Suizenji Jojuen Garden, Sakura no Baba Josaien, statues around the city, local restaurants, and cultural properties. Browse them by category on the map.

Visit a spot and press the button to collect a stamp, complete with a taiko drum sound. Collect every stamp in a category and a small celebration awaits. You can share your collection on social media.

■ Four languages

Available in Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, and Thai. Stop names and tourist spots are shown in your chosen language.

■ Designed to use little data

Timetable and route data is included in the app, and searches run entirely on your device. Apart from map tiles, no network connection is needed, so you can travel without worrying about data usage. Your searches are never sent anywhere.

■ About the data

Built using public transport data (GTFS) and tourism information published by the Kumamoto City Open Data Catalog. Full attribution is available under Settings, Data Sources. Map data from OpenStreetMap contributors and OpenFreeMap.

■ Still growing

Development continues. More sightseeing spots, coupons, and wider coverage are planned. If you notice anything or have a suggestion, we would love to hear from you.
