There's a bug on the wall, and you want one thing: its name.
Insect Identity is a bug identifier that works from a photo. Snap the bug — or pick a photo from your gallery — and the app answers in about a second: a best match, a confidence score, and the runners-up if it isn't sure. The AI runs entirely on your phone, so insect identification works with no signal at all.
WHAT IT CAN NAME
224 of the species people actually meet at home, in the garden and on the trail:
- Butterflies and moths (monarch, swallowtails, luna moth, hawk moths...)
- Beetles and ladybugs (Japanese beetle, fireflies, stag beetles...)
- Bees, wasps and hornets (honey bee, bumble bees, yellowjackets, paper wasps...)
- Ants, termites and household pests (cockroaches, bed bug, silverfish, fleas, clothes moth...)
- Flies and mosquitoes, dragonflies and damselflies
- Grasshoppers, crickets, katydids, mantises and walking sticks
- True bugs and cicadas (stink bugs, spotted lanternfly, water strider...)
- Spiders and ticks (black widow, brown recluse, wolf spider, deer tick...)
HONEST ABOUT CONFIDENCE
No insect identifier can promise certainty, so this one doesn't pretend. Every result is a best match with a confidence score, followed by the other possibilities with theirs. A sharp, close, well-lit photo usually scores high; a blurry one scores low — and the app says so instead of bluffing. Treat any match as a strong lead, not a verdict, and never rely on it alone for decisions about stings, bites or anything you plan to eat.
WORKS COMPLETELY OFFLINE
The neural network ships inside the app and runs on your device. Airplane mode, deep woods, basements — bug identification works everywhere, and nothing is uploaded anywhere.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your photos stay on your phone. There is no account, no sign-up and no server.
SIMPLE ON PURPOSE
Two buttons: Take Photo or From Gallery. Crop to the bug, get your answer, read the runners-up. That's the whole app — on phones and tablets alike.
ABOUT ADS
Insect Identity is free, supported by ads via Google AdMob — a small banner and an occasional full-screen ad. That's the whole business model.
