Friction lets you choose the apps that pull you in, set a period of time gap between you and the app, and decide when it applies. Before a selected app opens, Friction gives you a moment to stop, reflect, and choose what you want to do next.
With Friction, you can:
• Create app presets friction time and schedule
• Choose friction times ranging from 10 seconds to 5 minutes
• Keep a preset on all day or set a daily start and end time
and
• Add friction after unlocking your phone
Friction and Focus: Sometimes, one needs to put their phone away for more than a few minutes. In that case, Friction allows user to:
• Set a time for which your whole phone is blocked for you to get your work done
• Whitelisted apps: User gets to use a few whitelisted apps during the Focus session.
• Use Friction pass to end focus session early in case of emergency.
Friction is designed to be simple, private, and intentional. Your presets and settings stay on your device. No account is required.
USE OF ACCESSIBILITY SERVICE
Friction uses Android’s Accessibility Service to notice when you open apps you selected and display the friction gate at the right moment. It also helps in keeping Focus session in place by ensuring that if the user attempts to open an app that is not part of "whitelisted apps" it brings to back to the focus block screen. It does not read, record, or share the content you see inside other apps.
Other permissions:
Display over other apps help Friction to put friction gates over distracting apps.
Optional notification and battery settings can help Friction work more reliably on some devices.
Friction is a tool for intentional phone use. It is not an emergency, parental-control, or medical service.
Make your phone less tempting by adding a gap between you and your distractions.
