About this game

Dying made you the perfect spy! Will you use your phantom powers to defend the United States government, or overthrow it?

"Wraiths of SENTINEL" is a 250,000-word interactive novel by Paul Gresty where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

You are a phantom being of supernatural energy, working as a covert intelligence operative for SENTINEL, a secretive government agency. Your unrivaled powers of surveillance can safeguard the freedom of the country; your paranormal wraith abilities will make the difference between being hunter and prey.

SENTINEL has tasked you to investigate the No-State Separatists, a ruthless band of domestic terrorists. Can you uncover a link to the extreme-right True Freedom Party? Your investigation will delve into the realm of political corruption, draw you into the spirit world, and bring you to the nexus of all reality itself.

As you'll soon discover, the true threat to the nation is far closer than you'd ever imagined.

• Play as male, female, or nonbinary; straight, gay, bi, or beyond notions of mortal sexuality

• Go rogue! Escape detection by the best ghost-hunters in the world

An awful slog. It's well written, but it makes for a terrible game. It's impossible to see the statistical effect actions have on your powers, choices are incredibly vague often as to which state they are going off if it isn't an ability, and the most damning is that you keep getting progressively weaker and weaker. It's exhausting, and not in a good way.

Very political and very biased. I mean, it is basically an "Orange Man Bad" story but with ghosts. That being said, it is well written and sort of interesting. I have no complaints there, but the stats vary wildly and change constantly. It makes it hard to choose the best option. Also not all abilities are expressed in options so if you invest wrong then you can't actually do anything. Even ignoring the glaring political bias, I can't give it more than three stars because of the stat system.

This game has a very interesting premise, sadly it just doesn't work in a game setting. The choices are inconsistent at best, the supporting character are flat, the wraith powers can be interesting but it makes you feel limited instead of the opposite, the plot is basically a straight line from a to b, and the stat check is by far the worst aspect of the game. I'm pretty sure if the author expanded more on the side character and give the mc some nuance, this game could be salvageable
