About this app

Changes is a calm, offline atlas of the I Ching (易經, Yijing), the Book of Changes, one of the oldest classics of Chinese thought. Learn how it is built, read all 64 hexagrams in the original Chinese and in plain English, and cast a hexagram yourself, with every step of the arithmetic shown.

A learning path
Start with five ideas: lines, trigrams, six-line figures, changing lines and a question to try yourself. A worked coin toss separates a line’s shape from whether it changes. Continue resumes your saved lesson or practice round. Practice defaults to five questions, with ten optional. Review starts after your first attempt; two-day review progress stays separate from finishing an activity. Then follow the existing path through all 64 hexagrams.

The 64 hexagrams
• Chinese name, pinyin and a plain English name
• Structure at a glance: the upper and lower trigram
• The judgment and the image in the original Chinese, with a plain-English reading
• All six line statements
• James Legge's 1882 translation as an optional literal layer
Browse by number or by trigram.

Cast it yourself, with the math shown
• Three coins: each toss, its sum (6, 7, 8 or 9) and the line it makes, from the bottom up. Toss real coins and enter them, or let the app toss.
• Yarrow stalks: the classical 49-stalk method, change by change, with its real odds. An old yang line is three times as likely as an old yin line, and the app shows why.
• Plum Blossom (梅花易數): from two numbers, or from the lunar date and the hour. See every sum and remainder, and the body and use trigrams with their elements.
Every cast shows the original hexagram (本卦), its moving lines, the changed hexagram (變卦) and the inner hexagram (互卦), each one tap away from its text. Where tradition varies, the app tells you which convention it follows.

A journal you keep
Save each cast with your question and your notes. Every entry keeps the full cast, steps included. Export your journal at any time as JSON (re-importable) or as readable Markdown. Export is always free, so your entries are never locked in.

Made to read
Text follows your system font size, up to the largest settings. Real dark mode throughout.

Private by design
Works offline; a connection is needed only to buy or restore Premium. No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking. Your journal, progress and settings stay on your device.

Free and Premium
Free: the first three units of the learning path (foundations, casting with coins, and the first eight hexagrams), all 64 hexagrams with their judgment, image and first line, and coin casting with every step shown.
Premium adds all six line statements with the plain-English reading and Legge's translation, yarrow and Plum Blossom casting, practice in every unit of the path, and the journal. No ads. Choose one:
• Annual: $19.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers
• Monthly: $2.99 a month
• Lifetime: $49.99, one payment, no subscription
Premium keeps growing: new lessons, practice and study material arrive in free updates for every Premium member.
Prices are in US dollars and vary by country; the app shows your local price before you buy.

Subscription terms
Payment is charged to your Google Play account at confirmation of purchase, or when the free trial ends. A subscription renews automatically at the same price unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. If you cancel during the free trial, you are not charged. Manage or cancel your subscription at any time in Google Play › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions. The lifetime purchase is a single payment and never renews.

A note on readings
The I Ching is a classic of Chinese thought. In this app, readings are for study and reflection, not prediction. Meanings that come from later tradition are labelled as tradition.
