Is the app really free?

Does Local Journal require an account?
No. No sign-up, no login, no email. The app works entirely offline.

Where is my data stored?
Your journal entries are always stored locally on your device. Local Journal has no cloud servers and nothing syncs automatically.

Can I back up my journal to the cloud?
Yes, if you want to. When you save or share an export, you pick the destination — your device, or your own cloud storage like iCloud, Google Drive, or Dropbox, using your phone's share sheet. We believe you should be deliberate with your personal data and decide, each time you save or share.

Can I export my data?
Yes. Text export is always free. PDF and JSON export are included with the one-time unlock.

Is this a subscription?
No. The premium unlock is a single $6.99 payment. You keep the features forever.

What’s new

- Fixed a bug where opening a same-day voice entry from Timeline or Search could leave the Today tab stuck showing that recording, with no way back to a blank free-write entry. Voice recording is now also limited to today's entry, since recordings always save under today's date.
- "Saved" status now appears on the same line as the entry's "Created" timestamp instead of crowding the title row.
- The "Go to Today" button now shows a text label alongside its icon.
