🚶 **USER-STARTED WALK TRACKING**
Walk tracking is a core BetterDog activity feature. After you select a dog and tap Start Walk, BetterDog uses a location foreground service to calculate live distance, duration, and average pace, including while the screen is locked. On Android, a persistent "BetterDog walk in progress" notification remains visible while tracking is running.

Tracking never starts automatically. Pause, Finish, or Discard stops location tracking and removes the notification; Resume starts tracking again. Interrupting the service during an active walk would miss GPS samples and make the recorded distance and pace inaccurate.

BetterDog saves only the completed walk summary. Route coordinates are processed on your device during the walk, then discarded rather than stored in history or uploaded to cloud backup.
