About this app
CashJars is an envelope budget app for people who use the cash envelope system or cash stuffing with real cash. Every envelope in your binder becomes a jar on your phone. Payday plans how the cash you took out splits across your jars and shows the exact notes to put in each envelope. Spending is two taps. There is no bank link and no account.
WHAT IT DOES
Payday refill
- Type the cash you withdrew and it is laid across your jars in your order
- Each spending jar is topped up to its amount, so cash left over from last time counts
- See the exact bank notes for each envelope, such as one $20, one $10 and two $1 notes
- See one combined bank-note list for your whole cash withdrawal
- Tap an amount to change it, or long-press a jar and drop it on another to move cash
- The payday split is not saved until all the withdrawn cash is assigned to jars
Jars
- Spending jars that refill every payday: groceries, gas, eating out, fun money
- Sinking funds that grow toward a goal: Christmas, car repairs, a trip
- A buffer jar that takes whatever is left
- Your own name, label colour and icon for each jar
- Each jar is drawn as a glass jar that fills as the cash goes in
Spending and moving cash
- Spend from a jar with an amount and a note
- When a jar runs short, record where the rest came from
- Move cash between jars, put cash back in the bank, or count a jar and correct it
Sinking funds with a date
- Set a goal and a date and CashJars works out what to add each payday
- A coming-up list of goals that are close
Pay periods
- Weekly, fortnightly (every two weeks) or monthly paydays
- History of every spend, move and payday, a period at a time
- Close a period and choose what happens to leftover cash: keep it, move it to the buffer or take it back to the bank
Reports and backup
- A PDF report for a pay period and a CSV export for spreadsheets
- A backup file you keep, which restores on another phone
Reminders
- A payday reminder in the morning, and a nudge the evening before to count your jars

STANDARD AND PRO
The standard tier has up to six jars, payday refills with notes, spending and the current period's history, with a banner ad on the History screen. CashJars Pro adds unlimited jars, sinking funds with dates, the period close, the PDF and CSV reports and every earlier period, and removes ads. Everything you enter stays readable at every tier, and backup is always included.

CashJars is a record of the cash you handle. It does not connect to a bank, card or wallet, it does not move or hold money, and it does not give financial advice.
Your records stay on your phone. There is no account and no cloud sync.
