About this app

AlertRoster was built for search-and-rescue teams. The roster in its name is the SAR team roster.

When a call-out goes out, AlertRoster notifies the volunteers on duty tonight and continues down the list until someone answers. The first acknowledgment stands the rest of the team down, so you can mobilize without waking people who aren't needed.

The same roster and escalation run critical infrastructure alerting for the on-call engineer, who has to be woken up when a site goes dark at 2am.

WHO IT SERVES

• Search and rescue — land, mountain, cave, swiftwater, and K9 teams
• Volunteer fire and rescue
• Coastal and water rescue
• Ski patrol and avalanche
• Community response and disaster relief
• On-call clinical and veterinary rotas
• Utility and restoration crews
• IT and infrastructure on-call

HOW A CALL-OUT RUNS

1. The roster knows who is on. Rotations, shifts, and handovers are scheduled in advance, and no one is alerted outside the period they signed up for.

2. The call-out goes out. Everyone on the active roster is alerted at once, or in waves — whichever your team runs.

3. It escalates if nobody answers. Silence is treated as a failure, not an outcome, and the alert moves to the next person on the policy.

4. The first yes stops the rest, so the team mobilizes without waking anyone who is not needed.

5. Every step is on the record — who was alerted, when, who answered, and how long it took. Useful for the debrief and for knowing whether your roster actually works.

HEARTBEAT MONITORING

A monitored system that stops checking in raises an incident by its own absence. That is how you find out about a site that has gone completely dark, where nothing is left running to tell you.

GETTING THROUGH A SILENCED PHONE

Call-outs are sent to the app at the highest available interruption level. Where Apple has granted the critical alert capability and you have allowed it, a call-out can sound through silent mode and Focus. Where it has not, AlertRoster falls back to a time-sensitive alert automatically — nothing to configure and nothing to forget.

You stay in control. Critical alerts are requested explicitly, can be refused, and are used only for live call-outs—never for reminders, summaries, or anything that can wait until morning. You receive nothing outside your scheduled on-call periods.

WHAT ALERTROSTER IS NOT

AlertRoster is a call-out notification and escalation tool. It notifies people who have agreed in advance to be notified and records what happened.

It is not an emergency service and does not contact one on your behalf. It is not a fire alarm, a security alarm, or a monitored alarm system, and it is not certified to any life-safety standard. It is not a replacement for your team's official paging arrangements, and it should not be the only way a call-out can reach your people.

Alerts are delivered on a best-effort basis over networks and devices outside our control — mobile carriers, Apple Push Notification service, the internet, and the responder's own phone and its settings.

AlertRoster requires an account. Visit alertroster.com to set up your team.
