About this app
Protag is a library of interactive stories you play by texting. You're the main character: pick a story, choose your name, and the characters text you back one line at a time.
- Originals and classics: romance, mystery, sci-fi, slow burns and found family, written by readers like you.
- Say anything: the story reacts to what you write. Stuck? Tap one of three suggested replies.
- Characters remember: how they feel about you shifts with what you say, and they may text you when you've been away.
- Write your own: set up a plot and a cast, and Protag's storyteller plays it out with every reader.
- Play as anyone: keep a few personas and pick one for each story.
Free to play, with free messages every day. Invite a friend and you both get free messages. Protag+ gives you unlimited messages, twice the story memory, longer plots and character bios, and name and chat colors.
Stories are written by AI from what authors set up and what you write. You need to be 13 or older to play.
Protag+ is an auto-renewing subscription, billed weekly or monthly until you cancel. Prices are shown in the app before you subscribe.
