About this app

Your neighbours already own the thing you need for one afternoon.

HoodShare is a way to lend and borrow between households on the same street —
the ladder, the tent, the wallpaper steamer, the pressure washer nobody uses
twice a year. You list what you are happy to lend. You see what people near you
are offering. Nothing changes hands but the thing itself.

HOW IT WORKS

Set up your household and join a neighbourhood. Neighbourhoods are small
groups, usually a street or a block, and someone already in one approves you
before you can see what its members share. That approval is the whole point:
your address and your things are visible to people who have been let in, not to
anybody who installs the app.

List an item in a few seconds — a name, a photo, and how far you are happy for
it to travel. Browse what is shared near you. Ask to borrow, and the owner gets
a notification with two buttons on it.

WHAT YOU SHARE, AND WITH WHOM

Every item is shared one of two ways, and you choose per item.

Shared with your neighbourhoods means only households approved into the same
groups as you can see it. They see your address, because they are your
neighbours and they need to know which door to knock on.

Shared publicly means anyone nearby can see the item — and they never see your
address or your exact location. A public listing shows a rough distance,
rounded, and nothing else. You have to acknowledge a warning before an item can
be shared this way, and the warning is enforced by the server rather than by
the screen you read it on.

YOUR ADDRESS

HoodShare asks for your address because distance is the whole idea: it decides
which neighbourhoods you can join and how far your things reach. You type it in
— the app does not read your device's location, and asks for no location
permission at all.

It is shown to households in the same neighbourhood groups as you, and to
nobody else.

EVERYTHING IN ONE PLACE

One screen holds both halves of lending: what people have asked of you, and
what you have asked for. Anything still waiting on an answer sits at the top,
oldest first, because the person who asked last week has been waiting longest.

DELETING YOUR ACCOUNT

From inside the app, in two taps, whenever you like. Your items and your
address go with it. If you are the last person in your household, the household
goes too; if you are not, it stays for the people still living there.

NO ADVERTS, NO TRACKING, NO ANALYTICS

HoodShare contains no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no crash
reporting. It is not funded by knowing things about you.

Signing in works with Google, with Apple, or with an email address and a
password. Whichever you pick, it stays your account.
