TimeVault is “Undo” for your real files.
Ever edited a Word document, Excel sheet, PDF, or a folder of photos… then realized you overwrote something important? That sinking feeling is exactly what TimeVault is built to prevent. It quietly keeps previous versions so you can relax knowing you have a way back.
What problem does it solve?
Accidental overwrites (saving changes you didn’t mean to keep)
“I changed it yesterday and now I need the old copy”
Mistakes while editing documents, reports, invoices, study notes, or images
Peace of mind for important folders you choose (work, study, family photos)
What TimeVault protects (examples)
Images: JPG, PNG
Documents: PDF, Word (DOC/DOCX), Excel (XLS/XLSX/CSV), PowerPoint (PPT/PPTX)
Many other common file types (audio/video/archives) are also supported for versioning and restore
How it works (simple)
You select the folder(s) you care about (you stay in control)
Turn Protection ON (runs in the background with an ongoing notification)
When files change, TimeVault saves earlier versions on your device
Open “Previous Versions” for a file to view the timeline and restore an older copy
Restore with confidence
See a chronological list of versions (date/time + file size)
One-tap restore to roll back to a previous version
Image preview for image versions before restoring
Storage‑efficient by design
TimeVault is built to avoid “unlimited growth” and unnecessary duplicates:
Versions are stored locally and automatically managed
The app keeps up to 10 recent versions per file (older ones are cleaned up)
Total stored history is automatically capped (about 300 MB by default), so it won’t silently consume your phone storage
Extra safety cap: SnapshotManager.kt also skips versioning files larger than ~250 MB (MAX_FILE_BYTES = 250 MB), so huge videos etc. won’t be snapshotted.
Battery‑aware background protection
Protection runs only when you turn it ON
Scanning adapts automatically: it checks more frequently when there’s activity, and backs off when idle (and slows down when the screen is off)
You can turn Protection OFF anytime from inside the app or the ongoing notification
Private & offline
Your version history is stored locally on your device
No account required
Important note about deletion
TimeVault is designed mainly for “accidental changes/overwrites”.
If a file is deleted, restoring back to the original file may not always be possible (depending on Android storage/provider behavior).
